Boasting long sandy beaches that stretch for kilometers, this spectacular destination is a treat for all ages. Whether you want the luxury of driving your 4WD onto the sandy banks or taking a relaxing stroll, Goolwa Beach has it all.

It’s the perfect environment for swimming and surfing. Surfing lessons and board hire are available from the local surf club. Don’t forget to keep your eye out for whales in the distance!

The Mediterranean climate of Goolwa gives rise to creativity and with that comes some great wines, on offer from thShaw Family Vintners, 90 Mile Wines at the Wharf Barrel Shed, Steam Exchange Brewery and Fleurieu Distillery.

Cockle Train

COCKLE TRAIN

Traveling on a railway built back in 1887, this Steam Train journeys from Goolwa to Victor Harbor delighting in spectacular ocean views along the way.

The journey takes 30 minutes and operates most weekends, Wednesdays and school holidays.

Goolwa Markets showcases the very best fresh, seasonal and local produce the Fleurieu has to offer.  

With over 80 stall holders, you’re bound to find a tasty treat or two. It is held on the first and third Sundays of every month and takes over the lawns alongside the Cockle Train and the Goolwa Wharf.

WATER TOURS

Cruise the Coorong operates a day cruise into the Coorong National Park from the Riverport of Goolwa.

The cruise showcases the beautiful Lower Murray River, Goolwa Lakes and the Coorong, one of Australia’s great saltwater estuaries.

WALKING & BIKE TRAILS

The Goolwa Historic Walk gives insight into the history of Goolwa, whilst the Hindmarsh Island Walk takes explorers across the other side for some beautiful views of the Marina.

The Encounter Bikeway stretches from Goolwa to Victor Harbor. This off-road paved path is suitable for riders of all ages and combines exceptional sea views with cafes along the way!

FISHING

Being adjacent to both river and sea water Goolwa is the perfect place to fish.  With multiple options, you’ve got your pick and can fish at either Goolwa Wharf, Goolwa Beach or at the Murray Mouth; fisherman are regularly seen with whiting or salmon

NATURE PLAYGROUND

This well-known sculpture nature play space has soon become one of SA’s favourite attractions for families.

It has a beautiful handcrafted 14ft boat as its major highlight, many animal sculptures, water play, musical instruments, a hammock swing, slide and to top it all off a climbing hill. This unique and well thought out playground is located on the banks of the River Murray
